How to Create Upload Field

Upload fields allow your customers to upload their files and attached to orders

Updated over a month ago

This guide explains step-by-step how to add an Upload Field to your products so customers can upload files in your store.

Step 1: Accessing the Fields Menu

In your Shopify Admin dashboard, click on the "Fields" tab from the left-hand menu under Apps.

Step 2: Creating a New Field

If no fields have been created yet, the list on the page will be empty. Click the black "Create field" button in the top right corner to proceed.

Step 3: Configuring Basic Settings

Follow the steps below on the configuration screen:

  1. Title: Enter a name for the upload field (e.g., "Custom T-shirt Upload Field"). This name is only visible to you in the admin panel.

  2. Display Target: Click the "Select product" button to choose which product this field will be displayed on.

  3. Status: Ensure "Active" is selected so the upload field appears in your store immediately.

Optional Settings:

  • Upload required: Check this box if you want to prevent customers from adding the product to the cart without uploading a file.

Step 4: Selecting the Product

In the "Select product" popup, find the product(s) you want to add the upload field to (e.g., "Custom T-Shirt"). Check the box next to the product and confirm your selection.

Step 5: Saving

After selecting the product, you will return to the main configuration screen. Verify that the selected product is shown in the "Product" section. Once all settings are correct, click the "Save" button at the top (or bottom) of the page to complete the process.

Step 6: Verification (Result)

Done! You can now visit the product page in your store to see the upload field successfully added. Your customers can now upload files using the "Choose files to get started" area.

Note: These are the basic settings required to create an Upload Field. Other sections will be detailed in our other articles.
